The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Jeppiaar Engineering College has a rich history of growth and excellence since its inception. Established in the academic year 2001-2002, the undergraduate program initially began with an intake of 60 students. Over the years, the department has witnessed significant development and milestones, solidifying its reputation as a premier institution for computer science education and research.

In 2006-07, reflecting the increasing demand for quality education in computer science, the undergraduate intake capacity was doubled to accommodate 120 students, a testament to the department’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the industry and academia.

A major milestone was achieved in 2012 when the department received permanent affiliation from Anna University, recognition of its academic standards and infrastructure. This affiliation served as a foundation for further advancements in both undergraduate and postgraduate education and research.

In the same year, the Master of Engineering program in Computer Science and Engineering was introduced with an initial intake of 18 students, offering advanced education and specialization in key areas of computer science.

The year 2015 marked another significant achievement as the department was recognized as a Centre for Research, highlighting its dedication to fostering innovation and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of computer science.

In 2017, the department secured a prestigious Central Government research project worth 8.81 Lakhs, showcasing its capability to undertake impactful research initiatives with national significance.

Continuing its trajectory of excellence, the department received the Best Department Award from Staffordshire University, UK, in 2019, recognition of its outstanding contribution to education and research on the international stage.

In line with its commitment to academic excellence and meeting the growing demand for quality education, the undergraduate intake capacity was further increased to 150 students in 2022, enabling more aspiring students to benefit from the department’s comprehensive curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities.

Throughout its journey, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Jeppiaar Engineering College has remained steadfast in its pursuit of excellence, continually adapting to the changing landscape of technology and education, and empowering students to become competent professionals and researchers in the field of computer science.
